HARMONY
The inspiration for writing this piece came to me in a meditation just beforehand.
I had naturally assumed that the piece would centralise around harmonies, varied complicated ones. The picture that emerged, however, was quite different.
The biblical story of Noah and the ark came to mind.
In short, God had decided to wipe mankind from the face of the earth as wickedness was fast spreading. He found favour with Noah and asked him to build an ark for himself and his family. He was to bring into the ark two of all living species, both male and female. Once this was done rain fell on the earth for 150 days and flooded it.
Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out. Noah and his companions remained in the ark for almost a year before they were allowed to come out of it.
The picture I was getting was of how all of these various creatures managed to live side by side, in perfect harmony.
The piece starts with a tolling bell calling all creatures to come forth two by two. First arrive the lions, as is befitting the king of the jungle. Then the elephants, dogs and cats. Tortoises, snakes, deer and monkeys follow while birds hover up above. These are all featured in the piece.
In order to make it easy for you to recognise the different animal entries as they appear in the piece, I have decided to isolate little snippets from it that mimic their characteristics in sound. Suffice it to say, I had great fun creating this piece! 🙂
Throughout, a flowing, gentle melody binds the various animal sounds together, which further highlights the sense of harmony.
And, finally, one can here once again the ark’s tolling bell as it sails away into the sunset.
I had written this piece a few months ago and have finally gotten round to cutting and pasting the individual sounds.
I hope you enjoy the conglomerate, and perhaps get to feel a sense of harmony and peace spreading inside of you as the piece unfolds.
