The music of George Gershwin

Cantor David Rome tenor
Sharona Joshua piano

This programme features the music of George Gershwin (1898 – 1937) who was and remains one of the most imaginative American composers of the early 20th century. Gershwin fused elements of jazz, ragtime & blues with European symphonic traditions and created a musical language that was fresh, spontaneous and, above all, American.

“He (Gershwin) expounded the rhythmic subtleties of jazz numbers brilliantly & with exactly the proper atmosphere of impromptu that makes good jazz playing so fascinating.”

Robert Wyatt
